Bill Analysis

SB 5 would strengthen election integrity and reduce voter fraud. This bill would broaden prohibitions on tampering with ballots or impersonating another person to fraudulently cast their ballot. This bill would expand the list of actions that constitute fraudulent use of mail in ballots and enhance penalties for numerous fraudulent voting activities.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Voter fraud undermines the sanctity of our electoral process and violates the rights of legitimate voters by devaluing their lawfully cast ballot. Securing elections by making fraud more difficult to perpetrate and by more appropriately holding to account those who engage in voter fraud helps to ensure the integrity of our elections and ensures that the will of the people prevails at the ballot box. This supports individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government. For these reasons we support SB 5.
