Bill Caption

Relating to the sequencing of required English language arts courses and mathematics courses in schools.

Fiscal Notes

From LBB: No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Currently, advanced English can only be taken by a student after they successfully complete English I, II, & III and an advanced mathematics course can only be taken after completing Algebra I and Geometry. This bill would remove the requirements that these prerequisites be taken before a student can take an advanced course in English or Mathematics.

Vote Recommendation Notes

By allowing greater flexibility in course sequencing, this legislation supports limited government and individual liberty. Should this be enacted, high school students will have more options to tailor their course load to their specific needs. We support SB 826.
