Bill Caption

Relating to treatment and care provided by licensed medical professionals to animals in certain facilities.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, exceptions from laws regarding veterinary care licensing are provided in specific circumstances. SB 721 would add to these exceptions the activities of a licensed health care professional who, without expectation of compensation and under the direct supervision of a veterinarian, provides care to an animal in the ownership or custody of an entity accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 721 would allow currently licensed health care professionals to volunteer their time and perform veterinary services under the direct supervision of a licensed vet. This is a modest expansion of an existing license for individuals who are already skilled in medical practice. Therefore, we support SB 721.
