Bill Caption

Relating to the confidentiality of certain home address information in ad valorem tax appraisal records.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, certain individuals are afforded explicit confidentiality with regard to home address information disclosed in tax appraisal records (such as a peace officer, an employee of the Department of Justice, or a judge). SB 510 would add to this list a current or former employee of a federal or state judge.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Members of the law enforcement community are afforded this exemption from disclosure to prevent them from becoming easy targets in their homes by people who wish to do them harm because of their status as a law enforcement official. Whether it is necessary for this protection to be extended to current or former employees of federal or state judges is an administrative decision for the legislature which does not affect our liberty principles, therefore we remain neutral.
