Bill Caption

Relating to the authority of a court to return certain fees to a person whose criminal record has been expunged.

Bill Analysis

This bill would allow a court to return a fee, or portions of fees, to an individual who has had their criminal record expunged. This relates to any fees required to be paid in the government code relating to Costs Paid by Defendants, and any other law in relation to the petition for expunction.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill upholds our liberty principle of limited government by allowing those who have had their criminal records expunged to be reimbursed for any fees they had to pay related to their petition for expunction. Reducing or reimbursing fees limits government and allows people to keep more of their hard-earned money. We support SB 326.
