Bill Caption

Relating to the requirements for annexation by a municipality of certain municipal utility districts.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 2196 would establish requirements for the governing body of a municipality that intends to annex all or part of certain special districts in Travis County. This bill would require such a municipality to first adopt a resolution of intention and transmit it to a list of districts. On receipt of the resolution, the districts would call an election for the annexation.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill provides a higher level of accountability in local government and protects against unwilling annexation of the specific special purpose districts enumerated in the bill. This upholds our principle of limited government. For this reason, we support this legislation.
