Bill Caption

Relating to the creation of a commission to recommend improvements to the public school finance system.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would create a commission that would make recommendations to the legislature for the improvement of public school finance in the state.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The commission that would be created under SB 2144 to make recommendations for improvements to the public school finance system does not affect our liberty principles. Legislation that arises in future sessions based on the work of this commission will likely affect our principles but we have no way of knowing at this time what those recommendations might be. For this reason we remain neutral. We do hope, however, that the commission will take the opportunity to seriously study and make recommendations for the implementation of a more diverse education system in Texas including parent and student choice and vastly expanding charter schools.
