Bill Caption

Relating to vehicle registration.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 2075 would amend the Transportation Code to make the fee for the registration of a commercial fleet a one-time, rather than annual, payment of $10 per vehicle, semitrailer, or trailer and a license plate manufacturing fee of $1.50 per vehicle, semitrailer, or trailer. Next, if the office of an assessor-collector is closed an application may be sent to a county assessor-collector who is willing to accept the application. Third, printed receipts from online vehicle registration renewal transactions may serve as proof of registration for 30 days. Fourth, no replacement fee would be assessed if the county assessor-collector determines that owner paid for a prior replacement registration insignia for the same registration period that was mailed to the owner but not received. Finally, procedural updates to the disposition of fees collected by a county assessor-collector would be established.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill enhances our limited government principle by lightening regulatory burdens related to vehicle registration for commercial fleet owners. We support SB 2075.
