Bill Caption

Relating to the offense of possessing a weapon in a secured area of an airport.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, a person commits an offense if they intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possesses or go with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or prohibited weapon in the secured area of an airport terminal building. SB 2054 would expand this offense to include possession in an adjacent aircraft parking area used by common carriers in air transportation but not used by general aviation. This would not apply to an individual who is authorized by a federal agency to possess a firearm.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill infringes on the principle of individual liberty by expanding restrictions on the rights of Texans protected under the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution. For this reason, we oppose SB 2054.
