Bill Analysis

SB 1911 would require the clerk of each court in the state to post links on the court’s internet website to the State Law Library and self-help resources related to lawyer referral services, the names and locations of local Legal Aid offices, and information about court affiliated self-help centers.

Vote Recommendation Notes

It is within the authority of the state, and to the benefit of individuals, to require courts to collaborate with other state agencies to identify, facilitate, and provide information related to self-help. The judicial system is established by government and requires individuals to follow certain rules whenever they are engaged with the system. As such, this bill would promote individual liberty and personal responsibility by empowering individuals to be educated about how to navigate judicial proceedings and ascertain whether or not they need professional representation.
