Bill Caption

Relating to the elimination of a specific requirement that certain school districts develop and implement a plan to increase enrollment of the district ’s students at institutions of higher education.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Current law requires certain public high schools to "enter into an agreement with the public institution of higher education in this state in closest geographic proximity to the district to develop a plan to increase the percentage of the district's graduating seniors who enroll in an institution of higher education for the academic year following graduation" This essentially requires school districts affected by this statute to do recruiting for nearby institutions of higher education, among other provisions of that section of the Education Code.

This bill would repeal the entire section of code pertaining to this requirement.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill rightly lowers regulation on school districts by removing this section of Education Code. We support SB 1794.
