Bill Caption

Relating to state-developed open education resources for public schools.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1784 would change the open instructional source in education into the open education source, a more encompassing resource for teachers and students that permits the free use of research tools in the classroom. The state would permit non state owned material to be included in this domain provided that it: is in the public domain; may be used under a limitation or exception to copyright law; or is licensed to the state for use in an open education resource.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Opening up more classroom instructional resources would benefit teachers and students. This supports limited government and consequently we support the bill.
