Bill Caption

Relating to the liability of a business that allows handguns to be carried on the business's premises.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would limit the civil liability for individuals who do not forbid the carrying of handguns on their property. If this bill passes, a business, or other entity, would be immune from civil liability with respect to any claim that is based on the person’s failure to forbid the licensed carrying of handguns on the premise.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill protects private property rights and individual liberty by allowing a business owner to allow for the carry of handgun, free of liability. If a person uses a handgun for unlawful purposes, it is that individual's responsibility and not the responsibility of the owner of the property where the incident occurs. For these reasons, we support this bill.
