Bill Caption

Relating to a study of seniors with a visual impairment by the Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would require the Aging Texas Well Advisory Committee to conduct a study to determine the appropriate level of independent living services for seniors with visual impairments and to make recommendations for the provision of services to those seniors. The study would also determine the projected growth of that demographic and make recommendations on the expansion and improvement of services for seniors with a visual impairment.

Vote Recommendation Notes

While we remain neutral because merely conducting such a study as proposed by this bill does not infringe on our liberty principles we note that it is a questionable use of public resources at best and will likely serve as a basis for future big-government legislation at significant expense to the taxpayers of this state at worst. The government is already far too involved in the healthcare market through insurance and provider regulations, and further meddling would only continue to distort the market.
