Bill Caption

Relating to allowing certain wholesalers and distributors to purchase beer, ale, and malt liquor from the holder of a brewpub license.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1639 would amend the Alcoholic Beverage Code to allow the holder of a wholesaler’s permit to purchase ale and malt liquor from holders of brewpub licenses. Next, a holder of a local class B wholesaler’s permit would be allowed to purchase malt and vinous liquors from holders of brewpub licenses. Third, the holder of a local distributor’s license would be permitted to receive beer from brewpubs. Finally, the holder of a brewpub license may sell ale and malt liquor to the holder of a wholesaler’s permit, a general class B wholesaler’s permit, or a local class B wholesaler’s permit.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill enhances our free market and limited government principles by decreasing regulations on wholesalers and distributors allowing the purchase of alcohol from a brewpub, which makes it easier to earn a living for both parties. We support SB 1639.
