Bill Analysis
The bill would require the State Board of Education to consider a school district's need for technology as well as
instructional materials in reviewing and adopting instructional materials,and would allow the agency to limit the adoption of instructional materials to provide sufficient resources to purchase
technology resources.. This bill would also establish the open education resource that would utilize teaching and learning materials in the public domain to be used to further educational innovation in the classroom.
Vote Recommendation Notes
We appreciate steps toward making educational information more accessible to the classroom through these open education resources; as well as the creation of more of a process to determine the need for technological instructional materials and instituting more transparency in this allotment system. For these reason, we support SB 1481.
