Bill Caption

Relating to the submission of a report by certain entities identifying spending reduction measures.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 135 would require entities that submit a legislative appropriations request to also submit to the board a detailed report identifying measures they can take to reduce their expenditures from general revenue and general revenue-dedicated accounts by 1 percent, 5 percent, and 10 percent in the next state fiscal biennium. This report must be sent no later than September 1 of each even-numbered year.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports this bill. SB 135 upholds our principle of limited government by making these entities accountable for their expenditures from general revenue funds and for making them present ideas for saving money. This is a proactive step for legislators to limit excessive spending.
