Relating to the establishment of the Texas State Music Museum and Texas Music Foundation; authorizing fees.

Bill Analysis

SB 1147 would amend the Government Code to establish the Texas State Music Museum and the Texas Music Foundation to raise money to finance and support the museum. The state preservation board would enter into an agreement with the foundation for the management, operation, and financial support of the museum.  

Vote Recommendation Notes

The creation and maintenance of new museums does not fall within the proper role of government. Private foundations and organizations have demonstrated they can fulfill these functions and should be allowed to do so. We oppose SB 1147 based on our principle of limited government.
