Bill Caption

Relating to the collection of information concerning the number at juvenile offenders committed to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department who have been in foster care.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would require that the Texas Juvenile Justice Department record whether a child being committed to the department is currently in foster care and the number of times the child has previously been placed in foster care. The bill would also require the department to submit a report to the governor and legislature not later than January 31 of each even numbered year containing statistical information concerning the total number and percentage of children in the custody of the department who have at any time been in foster care.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Tracking where foster children end up is a legitimate role of the state. This bill is merely a procedural means of this and therefore we remain neutral
