From LBB: Estimated Two-year Net Impact to General Revenue Related Funds for HB 816, Committee Report 1st House, Substituted: a negative impact of ($3,097,824) through the biennium ending August 31, 2019.

Bill Analysis

This bill would create new provisions that place more requirements on teacher mentor programs in the state. It would mandate that teacher mentors mentor teachers for up to two years and that orientation instructions and policy be data driven. To establish this system, this bill would create an allotment for mentor teachers through a new formula that the commission creates.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would place more costs on current programs that seek to mentor incoming teachers at schools; so much so that this bill allows for the creation of a new allotment system to pay for the changes in the program. This offends our limited government principle, therefore we oppose this bill.
