HB 3179 amends current law relating to the Texas college work-study program and to establishing a program for the off-campus employment of certain students at public or private institutions of higher education. It states that universities may directly employ students for these work-study programs, and not work with private employers in order to run the program. This bill also requires the board to develop a standard contract establishing the roles and responsibilities of eligible employers.
This bill charges the board to reimburse an eligible employer at a rate established by the board for the eligible wages paid by the employer to a student participating in the program and requires board to establish the rate or rates at which employers are required to pay students participating in the program.
