Bill Caption

Relating to the registration of certain trailers; changing a fee.

Fiscal Notes

From the LBB: an impact of $0 through the biennium ending August 31, 2019. The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, an individual may permanently register a token trailer for as long as the registration is renewed by paying an annual fee or until the token trailer is removed from service or sold.

HB 2433 would amend the Transportation Code to create the option of a permanent semitrailer registration fee and permanent license plates. The bill would allow the Department of Public Safety the authority to cancel, suspend, or revoke registration.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This would support limited government by reducing some of the regulatory burden related to semitrailer registration and license plates. For this reason we support HB 2433.
