Bill Caption
Relating to weight limitations for natural gas motor vehicles.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
Under current law vehicles operating on a public highway or port of entry may not exceed certain weight restrictions. This bill would provide an exception so that any vehicle powered by natural gas may exceed any weight limitation by an amount that is equal to the difference between the weight of the vehicle attributable to the natural gas tank and fueling system versus the weight of a comparable diesel tank and fueling system. The vehicles still may not exceed a gross weight of 82,000 pounds.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill makes a change that is within the legitimate authority of the state to make as it pertains to large vehicles operating on public roadways yet does not appear to have a connection to our liberty principles. For this reason, we remain neutral.
