Bill Caption

Relating to the hours of instruction provided in barbering and cosmetology schools.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, barber and cosmetology schools are required to provide a minimum number of hours of education in order for students to be licensed by the state. HB 2304 would allow the Texas Commission of Licensing and Regulation to authorize such a school to count any hours (clock or credit hours) and institute conversion standards. This bill would also decrease the school term and number of hours required to be eligible for a license.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill supports the principles of individual liberty and the free market by reducing the requirements to obtain an occupational license for barbering and cosmetology. We support HB 2304.
