Bill Analysis

HB 2112 would order the adoption of the Uniform Foreign-Country Money Judgments Recognition Act which proposes procedures to enforce judgments, rendered by courts outside the United States, relating to the granting or denying recovery of sums of money. This bill would create standards for the recognition of foreign-country judgments to a certain extent by a Texas court. Additional procedures are created regarding: the recognition of foreign-country judgments in court, pending appeals, and a statute of limitations.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports the provisions in this bill which increase the uniformity of enforcing foreign-country judgments. This streamlines our state judicial system without placing foreign laws above our state laws. HB 2122 upholds our principles of limited government, so for this reason, we support this legislation.
