Bill Caption

Relating to the exemption of certain commercial weighing or measuring devices from registration and inspection requirements.

Fiscal Notes

An impact of $0 through the biennium ending August 31, 2019.

The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, commercial weighing and measuring devices are required to be registered with the state by the owner and periodically inspected by the state. HB 2029 would exempt the application of these provisions to a device that is exclusively used to weigh food sold for immediate consumption.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill supports the principle of the free market because reducing state regulation on the weighing and measuring devices used for the sale of food for immediate consumption would increase the ability of individuals to associate freely in the marketplace. For this reason, we support HB 2029.
