Bill Caption

Relating to successful completion of a United States history dual credit course as an alternative to compliance with the United States history end-of-course assessment requirement.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would allow students enrolled in a United States history dual credit class who successfully complete the class to be exempt from taking a United States history end of course assessment.

Vote Recommendation Notes

On the one hand this legislation removes a required end of course assessment for individuals who qualify. On the other hand it is unclear whether merely passing a dual credit United States history course is sufficient to demonstrate subject matter proficiency at a level that merits eliminating the requirement for an end of course assessment. This bill could be improved by removing the assessment requirement only for those who complete the dual enrollment course and earn an a letter grade in the course.
