Bill Analysis
This bill would modify the portion of the code related to
interagency sharing of certain noneducational juvenile records. If passed, at the request of a state or local
juvenile justice agency, the Department of Family and Protective Services or a firm
with whom they are contracted would be required to share information in their possession
that would assist the agency continue services for certain multi-system youth. In
addition, as a corollary and at the request of the department, or a contractor who
provides foster care services, a state or local juvenile justice agency would
be required to share that information.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill would allow for state departments to coordinate and more efficiently provide services to those who need the services. Sharing certain information between state agencies would allow the left hand to know what the right hand is doing, in order to avoid providing duplicate services. We support HB 1521 because it upholds our commitment to limited and efficient government.
