Bill Caption
Relating to the creation of the National Museum of the Pacific War museum fund.
Fiscal Notes
From the Legislative Budget Board: a negative impact of ($2,704,000) through the biennium ending August 31, 2019.
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.
Bill Analysis
HB 1492 would amend the Government Code to create the National Museum of the Pacific War museum fund. The fund would consist of admissions revenue and donations and would be used to administer, operate, preserve, repair, expand, or maintain the museum.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This is a procedural bill which would simply modify how the funds for the museum are handled so that the private foundation that operates the museum can implement some operational efficiencies. For these reasons we will remain neutral, but do wish to point out that we believe this is a good example of why private organizations should be the ones who own and operate museums as they have a much better track record of operating these facilities efficiently and effectively.
