Bill Caption

Relating to the restrictions on political contributions and political expenditures by general-purpose political committees.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This bill would get rid of all prohibitions on the spending of a general purpose committee except the provisions stating that a general purpose committee cannot knowingly make a political contribution to another general purpose committee unless the other committee is listed in the campaign treasurer appointment of the contributor committee.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This would make for fewer restrictions on general purpose committees which is in keeping with limited government, therefore we support this legislation. We do note that while the bill eliminates two out of three provisions of the affected statutory subsection, the bill could be further improved by amending it to eliminate the subsection altogether rather than leaving the one provision intact.
