Bill Caption

Relating to health benefit coverage for prescription drug synchronization.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1296 would amend the Insurance Code to require a health benefit plan that provides benefits for prescription drugs to prorate any cost-sharing amount charged for a partial supply of a prescription drug.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Though well intentioned, this bill violates our free market and limited government principle by adding a regulation that private insurers to prorate a partial supply of drugs. It is not the role of government to mandate the benefits offered from insurers, therefore we oppose HB 1296.
