Bill Caption

Relating to a limitation on the amount of certain licensing fees charged by state agencies.

Fiscal Notes

The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time as it is unknown how the limitation in the bill would impact licensing agencies' administration of related programs and associated costs.

Bill Analysis

This bill would prevent state agencies from increasing the amount of a fee for the issuance or renewal of a professional license greater than the amount established on January 1, 2017.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The state of Texas licenses too many occupations at too great a cost and too high a regulatory burden. Placing a moratorium on increasing licensure fees promotes limited government by reducing the amount of fees the state charges people to go to work in their chosen profession and enhances free markets by placing some degree of certainty in the licensed professions with respect to the fees they are required to pay. For these reasons we support HB 1055.
