As Americans and according to our sixth amendment rights, we shall all “enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial.” SB 873 is a bill that is determined to cut through unnecessary government regulations that may delay a trial. Currently, individuals who have an arrest warrant for violations as simple as not paying for parking tickets could be put into jail while they await an opportunity to appear before a court. This bill would reduce the amount of people confined in jail for minor violations while their court appearance is pending. This legislation would enable a speedier adjudication process and prevent unnecessary confinement. We support this bill for its positive impact on limited government and individual liberty.
