Bill Analysis

SB 536 changes the “Prostitution Prevention Program” to the “Commercially Sexually Exploited Persons Program”.  This bill also designates this chapter under the Government Code, Subtitle K “Specialty Courts” from it’s original placement in the “Health and Safety Code.”  By reassigning this to a specialty court chapter they preserve oversight from the Governor’s Office, Lieutenant Governor, and the Speaker of the House. This bill adds that the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s office may give grants for the establishment or operations of a commercially sexually exploited persons program.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We are neutral on SB 536 because it is simply an administrative change that does not support or negate our liberty principles.
