Bill Analysis

SB 2068 would provide the Harrison County court at law concurrent jurisdiction with the district court, on assignment of a district judge presiding in Harrison County in felony cases, other than capital murder, and civil cases. The criminal district attorney assigned to a case would be entitled to the same fees prescribed by law for prosecutions in a district court.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 2068 would allow the Harrison County district court to delegate more cases to the county court to help increase efficiency. Promoting an efficient judicial system is an inherent aspect of limited government and a benefit to defendants who are guaranteed the right to a speedy trial. We support this legislation.
