Bill Analysis

SB 1934 would amend the Transportation Code to stipulate how Department of Public Safety may request and use a driver license applicant's social security number. The bill would apply the same standards to personal identification cards. The bill would require an individual to surrender their identification card to get a driver license, and their driver license to get an identification card.

No changes were made to this bill. The second chamber sponsor is Representative Rick Miller.

First chamber recommendation:

This bill affirms the principle of limited government. Preventing a person's private information that is collected by the government from being misused is a legitimate function of government and SB 1934 prevents the misuse of state identification cards. For this reason, we support SB 1934.
