No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1749, if passed, would modify the Agriculture Code (Section 80.001) by broadening of removing references to the Asian citrus psyllid, and citrus greening, broadening the code so that the Texas Citrus Pest and Disease Management Corporation may also address citrus pests and diseases more broadly.

Vote Recommendation Notes

SB 1749 would help to protect property rights by adding a pest and a disease to the list of items specifically addressed by the Texas Citrus Pest and Disease Management Corporation. This does not create a new program or subsidy, simply broadens the specific list of pests and diseases that the corporation may address. This will help to protect against damage caused by a harmful invasive species which ruins citrus crops. We support SB 1749.
