Bill Analysis

SB 1474 would allow victims of military sexual trauma to participate in a veterans court program.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The veterans court program was designed to be nonadversial. The court was created to help veterans who have been unable to readjust to society after their time of service. A defendant who suffered sexual trauma during their military service deserves the same respect as those who suffered any other injury during their time of military service. Because this bill would allow more veterans to have their cases adjudicated through the veterans court program rather than potentially treating certain veterans differently than others based on the type of service-connected trauma they endured, this comports with our principle of limited government. We support SB 1474.
