Bill Analysis

SB 1192 would provide that draft electronic information or financial statement data saved using the Texas Ethics Commission's (TEC) new web-based reporting software is confidential and cannot be disclosed. After the report or financial statement is filed, the information is public information to the extent provided by the law regarding these reports.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill is primarily designed to clarify that information stored temporarily on the TEC's new filing system would be confidential and that only the final information submitted to TEC would be public information. This clarification, while beneficial, neither offends nor affirms our liberty principles. We are neutral on SB 1192.
