Bill Caption
Relating to the operation of certain oversize or overweight vehicles transporting timber, timber products, or forestry equipment on certain public roadways.
Fiscal Notes
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
This legislation would amend the transportation code for vehicles operating under a timber permit to operate under different conditions than already established by TxDOT on certain roads and bridges with a weight limit, and exempts certain vehicles from width limitations for this same purpose. The legislation also reduces the fee for an annual timber permit from $1,500 to $900.
Vote Recommendation Notes
5/21/2015 update:
No changes have been made to this bill in House committee.
First chamber recommendation:
This legislation would be a clarification and reduction in permit fees from HB 777, passed during the 83rd Legislative Session, a bill we also supported. This bill moves toward equal application of the law by treating wood hauling companies the same as other companies with respect to weight limit exemptions. We support this legislation as the bill limits government over-regulation for hauling timber.
