Bill Analysis

This legislation would establish the Texas Women Veterans Program within the Texas Veterans Commission.

The mission of the program is to ensure that the women veterans of this state have equitable access to federal and state veterans’ benefits and services, assess the needs of women veterans with respect to benefits and services, review programs, research projects, and other initiatives designed to address the needs of the women veterans, make recommendations to the executive director regarding the improvement of benefits and services, and incorporate issues concerning women veterans in commission planning regarding veterans ’ benefits and services . The executive director shall designate a women veterans coordinator for this state.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The establishment of this program does not necessitate the hiring of any new state employees and any local government participation would be entirely voluntary. We remain neutral on this legislation, as it does not weigh for or against any of the principles we consider when providing bill analysis.
