Bill Analysis

HB 445 seeks to amend section 437.202 of the Government Code, to make state, municipal, and county governments provide a record to their employees enlisted in the Texas Military Forces how many days of paid leave were used, are left, and will be carried over at the end of each fiscal year.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 445 would alleviate confusion and would catch the state up with what many private sector businesses already do for members of the State Guard. This bill would give the employees of state and local governments, who also devote their time to the Texas Military Forces, a record of their used and unused paid leave -- in addition to how many unused hours are eligible to be rolled over into the next year. We believe this would help our State Guard volunteers be more responsible in planning time away from the office -- many of whom sacrifice their weekends in order to engage in disaster response, search-and-rescue operations, training, and other activities of the State Guard. We support this bill.
