Bill Analysis

HB 437 waives the 90-day waiting period for a state employee reintegrating back to employment after his military service to be able to participate in their insurance benefits.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill allows members of our military who work for the state in their private life to be able to enroll in an insurance program immediately after they return from duty, instead of waiting the currently required 90-day period.  We support this bill, because it allows members of the armed forces returning to civilian life the security of knowing there will be no gap in their coverage, and based on individual liberty, that they decided to serve in our armed forces, and it is appropriate for them to be assured there will be no loss in coverage, due to their sacrifice for the people of Texas and the United States once they return to civilian life.
