Bill Caption

Relating to the acceptance of employment applications through the online system for listing state agency employment openings maintained by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Fiscal Notes

As Introduced: a negative impact of ($331,329) through the biennium ending August 31, 2017. The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.

Bill Analysis

HB 426 seeks to modify the Texas Workforce Commission's website to where a prospective employee only has to input their information to Work in Texas one time. This would expedite the application process for those seeking employment with a state agency. State agencies would still be allowed to accept applications from other sources, and this excludes state colleges and universities.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 426 seeks to establish the common sense measure of only making prospective employees input their work history once and allow them to apply that information to as many positions as they wish. This legislation would streamline the application process, not only for prospective state employees, but also the state employees involved in the hiring process. We support HB 426 in the spirit of limited government.
