Bill Analysis

This legislation would repeal Section 172.021(e) of the Election Code, regarding petition signature requirements for petitions candidates for certain judicial offices are required submit along with applications for a place on the general primary election ballot, these requirements vary depending on whether a candidate chooses to submit the applicable filing fee with that application or chooses to file a petition in lieu of the filing fee.

We are neutral on this legislation. The bill aligns Elections law with other petition requirements to be put on a ballot for elected office. Currently, certain judicial candidates are only required to comply with the law that this legislation seeks to repeal.  We are neutral on this legislation.
