Bill Caption

Relating to a database for prospective employers to verify veterans' military service experience and employment qualifications.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend the Labor Code to require the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) to develop and maintain a web-based searchable database through which prospective employers may verify a veteran's military service experience and employment qualifications related to specific skills, but  prohibits the database from collecting, retrieving, storing, or using any identifying information of a veteran.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The purpose of this bill is to assist employers in understanding how a veterans military experience compares to qualifications for employment in the private sector, which is sometimes confusing or overlooked. This database would aide employers in finding veterans who are qualified for various professions and helps define how their previous military experience converts into private sector utilization. This is within the role and purpose of the Texas Workforce Commission and helps promote personal responsibility. We support HB 3256.
