Bill Caption

Relating to the qualifications for a coronal polishing certificate.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State or units of local government is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

To qualify for a coronal polishing certificate, one of the current educational requirements states an individual must complete at least eight hours of clinical and didactic education in coronal polishing taken through a dental assisting program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association and approved by the board.

This bill would amend Chapter 265 of the Occupations Code by expanding the list of acceptable dental institutions in which an individual can complete their educational requirement to include a dental school or dental hygiene school.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Expanding the list of acceptable dental institutions in which a person can complete their educational requirement decreases entry barriers to the dental industry. We support HB 2849 because it promotes our free market and individual liberty principles.

The second chamber sponsor is Senator Menendez.
