Bill Caption

Relating to authorizing a student center fee at the University of Houston-Victoria.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to State or local government.

Bill Analysis

Hb 2568 would authorize a student center fee at the University of Houston - Victoria. The fee would be $150 per student for each regular semester, $100 per student for the 10 week or longer summer term, and $50 per student for each summer term of five weeks or longer but less than 10 weeks.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would negatively impact the principle of limited government, therefore we oppose this legislation. It is ill-advised for government to be raising fees when the cost of tuition and fees is such a substantial burden on students already.

For a more detailed analysis on the long term impact to the total cost of education that such fee increases can create, see our analysis of HB 671 which provided for new student fees at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The second chamber sponsor is Senator Kolkhorst.
