Bill Analysis

HB 2262 would amend the Alcoholic Beverage Code by repealing the prohibition on a person opening a container of liquor or beer, or possessing an opened container of liquor or beer, on the premises of a package store.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 2262 would only allow for liquor or beer bottles to be opened on the premises of a package store, it does not allow for the consumption of liquor or beer on the premises. This bill would help resolve any discrepancies with the Packing Store Tasting Permit of Chapter 52, Alcoholic Beverage Code. HB 2262 has a broad application to our principles in that it allows packing stores to exercise their rights and responsibilities on their own property with minimal government interference. We support this legislation.
