Bill Caption

Relating to the placement of military occupational specialty codes on certain notices of state agency employment openings.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

389 amends Sections 656.002 (Submission of Job Information Forms) and 656.023 (Job Information Forms), Government Code, to require all job forms to have military specialty codes included in the job summary. This legislation makes it the responsibility of the classification officer at the Texas Workforce Commission to obtain the military specialty codes each fiscal biennium, and allows the Commission to seek the assistance of the Texas Veterans Commission to obtain this information.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation would require state agencies to put a military specialty code on certain job openings, in an attempt to better assist veterans who apply for a position to be able to assess their qualifications for those positions. We support this legislation, as it makes the job postings more transparent and for veterans to understand and decide if their military service qualifies them to meet the criteria of the job that is posted.
